This website is designed to help provide information on the care and admiration of Guinea Pigs as pets. I have kept guinea pigs for years and enjoy caring for them and spending time with them. I have 11 at the moment, including a Coronet, Rex, Alpaca, a Crested Agouti, Abysinnian and 3 Smooth Self breeds. Guinea pigs can make wonderful affectionate pets and all have their own individual personalities!
They are sensitive animals that crave affection and companionship, both with their own species and with humans. This is why guinea pigs must be kept in groups of two or more and should be handled regularly. I can garentee that the more you handle a guinea pig, the more closely you will bond! Guinea pigs come in all shapes and sizes, colours and coat types! But remember that in a pet, personality traits are more important than looks, because a timid and nippy guinea pig makes a much less enjoyable pet than a confident and relaxed one.
I am strongly apposed to all animal cruelty and to scientific testing on animals of any kind. I feel especially saddened by the reports of the guinea pig breeders that breed for laboritories and was pleased to hear of the 600 that were rescued from the NewChurch farm a few years ago and rehomed to a better life. The farm is ending it's breeding of Guinea pigs, due to the campaigning of the people who felt it was wrong, which just shows that people can make a difference and thanks to those people's efforts, hundreds of animals have been spared a life of suffering.
